Discrimination? Catholic Schools Sued 5/13/2014
NOTE: this event starts at 3pm with a smoking tent, beer, and apps outside!

Can Catholic schools fire employees who are openly opposed to and not in compliance with Catholic teaching?  What are some prudential guidelines for Catholic schools seeking to shield its students from scandal caused by employees who are in open opposition to the Catholic Church and who, if fired, will sue for discrimination and wrongful termination?
Why are the courts here and across the nation ruling in favor of plaintiffs?  Plaintiffs who desire employment at a Catholic school, but then stand in open opposition to the same Church and sue Her when their contract is terminated: is this a sign of the times?  Should Catholic schools allow for employees who not only no longer share the Faith, but are openly opposed to it?

In what cases are the Catholic schools getting it right - operating with fair policies, consistently applied, and clearly taught - and in what cases are they getting it wrong?  Where do administrators and our Church leaders draw the line between permissively allowing scandal and firing employees at the risk of financially-crippling law suits?

Join us on Tuesday, May 13 as attorneys Joel Oster and Joshua Newville tackle this timely religious liberty topic!  The event will be moderated by Michael Olson of Providence Academy.

Newville, who will be arguing that the Church's actions run afoul of discrimination laws, was recently featured on FOX 9 News regarding his upcoming legal representation of three couples seeking to overturn South Dakota's same-sex marriage ban:
