Islam and Catholicism: Enemies or Partners? |
4/10/2012 |
How do Catholics relate to the Islamic world? Traditionally, Islam has been considered a Christian heresy. In more recent times, it has been thought of as one of "three great Abrahamic religions” all worshipping the same Creator God. Are these accurate descriptions? Do we really worship the same God? Can we have a theological dialogue, as opposed to simply working together on common cultural and moral concerns? Is Islam inherently violent? How should we evangelize Muslims? Dr. Terry Nichols of the University of St. Thomas has an optimistic approach to the possibility of the Catholic Church working with Muslims in all spheres of cooperation. Dr. Bill Stevenson of Providence Academy offers a more cautious and skeptical response to the questions at hand. Join them for a lively debate on this topic—one which will be one of the great issues of the next century and beyond! |
